Connecting field inspections to maintenance
At Platform45, for Anglo · June 2012–February 2014
The problem
Information gathered during an inspection needs to reach the people making risk and maintenance decisions. eSimms connected those parts of the work for Anglo’s large structures, including mineshafts and other assets.
My contribution
As lead developer at Platform45, I developed and improved the Rails and JavaScript system, integrated it with SAP, and demonstrated the product to the Anglo board. Inspectors could record issues against assets, with reporting supporting risk analysis and maintenance decisions.

How I approached it
The engineering work involved translating field and operational requirements into a usable workflow. This meant paying attention to what inspectors needed to capture and how that information would support later decisions, not just building a set of forms.
What the work enabled
The product was successfully rolled out across multiple assets, including mining sites and plants. It connected field inspection records to risk reporting and SAP-integrated maintenance, turning information gathered on site into something people could act on.
